Tickner creates History. Harrier senior Men finish 9th team in all England. Harris
& Wiltshire run well in the u13 & u15 races respectively.
We are very
pleased that Bruton’s Frank Tickner
created a little bit of athletic history this weekend by completing the clean
sweep of all 4 of the major domestic titles in 1 season. He won the English
National XC title at Sunderland by the
proverbial mile, to add to his triumphs at the European XC Trial Race; the
World XC Trial Race; and the Inter-Counties Trial Race. He was by the way the
youngest ever winner of the Inter-counties. (I didn’t know that until Athletics
Weekly pointed it out).
Frank led
home the Harrier team of 6 to a top 10 finish on a blustery Sunderland
course which was dry and fast, and was well supported by elder brother Ben, 11th,
Adrian Marriot. 29th, Andy Hennessy, 38th, Pete Grist in
147th and last man to count Jon Gilling who stormed in for 235th
place. Well done to all and many thanks to Jon James for team managing and
driving the minibus to & from the North East.
In the U’13
boys race, George Harris ran an excellently judged race again as he steadily
pulled back a host of runners to finish in13th place. Alex Wiltshire ran well in
the U’15 boys race to finish 35th. A great effort by all.
