The Ash
Excellent Eight, Fearsome Five, Junior 3km race and a 2km Fun Run brought
together over 300 runners at the Ash Primary School’s annual day. Organised by Yeovil Town Road Runners with
support from Yeovil Olympiads, this popular family event near Martock saw many
harriers taking part across all 4 races.
Despite adverse conditions following the heavy downpours Wells enjoyed
successes in both the 5 mile and 8 mile multi-terrain races.
Dickie Wythe placed 2nd overall over the five mile distance
was 1st V50 taking a mere 30.49 mins followed by Dave Stanfield in 6th place (32.30), with Stuart Marsh (
36.14) and Tom Lock (39.13) completing top ten finishes in 8th and 9th
positions.
The 8 miler, with its fair share of muddy droves and slippery stiles,
had the majority of entrants, with Steve Masters 4th ( 53.17) and 2nd V40, heading
home 14 other Harriers with Matthew Lewis 6th (54.40), Jenny Moore 21st winning the ladies category in a time of
1.00.54, with Rod Appleby just 3 secs adrift in 22nd place. Wells strong presence took both male and
female team awards as well as Pat Challis 1st V55 and Colin Turner
taking the Elder’s trophy.
In the 3km race junior Callum Moir finished 12th and Luke
