Wells Women Win
Wessex
The Wessex Ridgeway Race is no easy weekend stroll. Run over 12 stages totalling over 100km (about 65 miles,) it stretches from Tollard Royal near Shaftesbury to Uplyme near Lyme Regis. The countryside is beautiful, but with plenty of harsh countryside tracks and bogs, and several brutal hills.
With a start at 7.30am, two Wells City Harriers teams set off supporting each other, passing the batons at each hand-over to cheers from their team mates and other loyal supporters. The end came over 10 hours later, with the Ladies team coming in ahead of their nearest rivals by a sizable margin. The Men’s team supported all the way, sharing in the reflected glory of the day.
Well done to Laurie Phippard, Lucy Chard, Jo Langford, Liz Green, Christine Reynolds and Clare Prosser, and to Tatiana Storie and Sue Cook for their organisation of the teams.
And to the guys!
Aidan Phippard, Chris Storie, Ian Carpenter, John Reynolds, Bob Powell and Dave Bonstow – and Ian Noad in support.
