Junior Harriers win Medals at the County Champs Multi -events

 

Harrier Club members finished 1st, 3rd and 4th in the Inter girls County Championships Multi-events Competition held recently at Millfield. They contested the seven events in sequence of 80m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Putt, 200m, Long Jump, Javelin and 800m. Hayley Steward won gold with a total of 3060 points from the set of events, whilst team mate Natalie Parker collected bronze with her total of 2837. In 4th place was Leighanna Chappell who competes with 2,720 points.  

 

Hayley won the Shot Putt with 7.53m and the 200m with 28.48 and was 2nd in 3 other events, the 80m Hurdles, the Long Jump and the Javelin. Natalie won the 80m Hurdles outright with her nippy time of 13.82m. Leighanna’s strongest event was the 800m where she stormed to a clear victory in a quick time of 2.28 in what was the last event of a gruelling weekend.

 

In the Inter boy’s event, contested over 8 events, Charlie MacLean was 12th overall and won the final event, the 1500m, in a good time of 4.23.

 

In the u’13 boys Tristan Goldsmid finished 12th overall in the quadrathlon. He ran 16.33 for the 100m sprint, then took the shot out to 4.85m, jumped 3.56m for the long jump before winning the 800m in 2.42 well ahead of the other 19 athletes. Charlotte Carpenter was 11th in the u’13 girls’ event.

 

Olivia Steward finished 8th in the Senior Girls Heptathlon with her best two events being the High jump, 1.42m, and the Long Jump 4.55m.
