At the latest round of the Yeovilton 5km road race in August there was a 1-2-3 for the Harrier men as they swept the podium positions in the field of 150 runners. GB international Ben Tickner, brother of Frank, had to make do with Yeovilton rather than Bangkok and won in an excellent 15.26 just ahead of team mate Carl Morris, the winner of the June and July editions of this race, and with Peter Grist just back in 15.36 for the 3rd place. Also amongst the prize-winners was Anna Lewis in 2nd place for the women in a good time of 18.39, though she allowed hubby Matthew to steal ahead of her to finish in 18.04.

Jon Gilling and Rob Parfitt completed the quintet of Harriers in the first ten home with their 16.23 and 17.01, whilst u’15 junior Cameron Rafferty recorded an excellent personal best of 20.04, and Becky Lee returned to racing after a gap of 2 years with her time of 23.33.

For the women, Ange Thomas managed to record exactly the same time as the month before with her 23.46, just ahead of Jane Middleton 23.55, fresh from her recent Bath Tri exploits. Pat Challis raced well with her injured wrist again for 24.43. Carol Buckland was as consistent as ever with 22.44 and Kay Franklin was out racing again with 28.18.

For the men, James Hardy found that no matter how hard he tries he still has Les & Tom Lock on his shoulder – maybe they’re planning on a pincer movement at the next showdown? James was 14th in 17.23 with Tom and Les less than 4 seconds behind at the line. Paul Chadwick completed his 3rd race in a week with his 19.17 - if only he did some training as well he might go a bit faster. Alastair Middleton was buoyant with his 20.11, and like Jane had recently competed in the Bath Tri. Gary Tubridy was celebrating his call up again for the autumn Original Mountain Marathon (formerly known as the KIMM) but was disappointed with his 20.19. Joseph Lewis from our partner Club Yeovil Olympiads had a good run for 21.44 and Colin Money showed that the Tuesday evening sessions are working with his 22.00 dead.
