Loch Ness Marathon – 03 October 2010

Seven Harriers, Dave Bonstow, Clare Prosser, Mike Brown, Elly Milln, Martin Bailey, John Russell, and Neil Jones took part in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon in Inverness, Scotland on Sunday 03 October.  This marathon is part of the Festival of Running, an event which attracted over 8,600 runners of all ages from 41 countries.

The build up to the event began the day before with registration and a pasta party, which gave runners the chance to ‘carbo-load’ on soup (Baxters of course), pasta and pud.  The following morning started early with runners gathering in Bught Park at 7.30am to be loaded onto and transported in a convoy of buses and coaches to the starting point near Fort Augustus.  All they then had to do was to run the 26 miles back to Inverness.  Mild and damp conditions at the start did nothing to deter runners’ enthusiasm nor that of the bagpipers, who played as the runners crossed the start line.

The route followed the slightly undulating road along the south-eastern shore of Loch Ness, through spectacular Highland scenery before leading runners into Inverness, crossing the River Ness and back to Bught Park.

The next eight hours saw 2489 competitors finish the marathon.  Clare Prosser was second lady over the line in a time of 3.04.56, so another stunning result!  Other results below.
