Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

October sees the 23rd year of the Street Race Series and once again we need Club members to sign up to help out on the nights for this Club event. There are also two other local races in October that we help support and Club members should consider giving their time to help make sure they run smoothly.

The Street Race Series which takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month Oct-March was first started back in 1989. For those who don't know, it consists of a 5km race for seniors and juniors plus 2 shorter races over 1km and 2km for youngsters. All races take place on the pavement/road around Clarks Village with start and finish outside the British Legion Club on Farm Road. Race HQ is at the United Reformed Church.

CAN YOU DO YOUR BIT BY VOLUNTEERING?

We are looking to recruit from amongst Club members a 'back up Race Director' in the event of Paul not being able to attend, and to have at least 6-8 members who will take entries on the night, act as marshals at the crucial junctions, and to help with the finish recording. For all tasks there is a job description and some tasks can be carried out in advance of the races -e.g. purchasing the prizes for each race. Please contact Paul Chadwick with your offer of help by October 1st as the first race is on October 12th. Club members are expected to help with Street at least once each season as it is the only race(s) that the Club derives an income from. If you aren't helping you should come along and race.

Also coming up in October are two local races that generate income for good local causes, which we support and are organised by Harrier members working with the local community:

October 2nd Shepton Mallet Fun Run (10k; 5k; junior races)

October 16th Cranmore Chase 10k multi-terrain (inc junior races)

Please contact Sue Cook (race Director) to volunteer for the Shepton race
