Last weekend saw a variety of events taking place nationally and locally with Wells represented at all levels.
Representing England Laura Parker competed in the Home Countries Cross Country International at Antrim where she finished 4th overall. Laura as the youngest runner clocked an impressive 26.24 over the 7.2 km course.
Oliver Fox ran for the English Schools team in the Home Counties International where he finished an excellent 11th place overall in a time of 14.23 over the 4.5 km course.
The prestigious 12 stage SEAA Road Relay’s were held at Milton Keynes on the 27th March attracting the cream of the Southern English clubs with 37 teams registered. Wells qualified and fielded a strong team with several of the club’s leading athletes taking part including a number of veterans, sharing the mix of long and short distances.
The opening long leg went to Jack Bancroft who ran a steady 27.15 to finish in 26th place, handing over to Alex Wiltshire 19.14 gaining a place up to 25th position. Legs 3 and 4 fell to Ben Tickner and Charlie Low both pulling the team up to 17th and then 13th place. Jon James continued the momentum with an excellent run to bring the team’s place up to 11th.
Andrew Hennessy’s 6th leg maintaining mid order closed in 12th place at the halfway point. The final 6 legs comprised of Eliot Haines 26.47, Allan Jones 19.12, Matthew Lewis 27.59, Andrew Deamer 19.28, Eddie Richards 26.51, and final leg man Pete Darton 20.06 closing the Wells team in 14th position overall.
Nearer to home 4 members ran the first ever Yeovil half marathon, amongst the 700 runners were Martin Bailey in 46th place who was just ahead of Lizzie Hart 51st , who was placed 1st junior female clocking 1.30.19, against Martin’s 1.30.08. Laura Darby-Jones and Caroline Fabre both finished under 2hours in 349th and 413th positions.
Saturday 2nd April is the early season open Track and Field meeting at the Yeovil Arena full details can be found on www.wellscityharriers.org.uk. Also that there will be a Star Track day at Millfield on April 18th see the web site for details.
