It’s been another action-packed week of outstanding performances for the Harriers, with golden success at the inaugural Brean Banger where Chris Green and Phoebe Aspinall both claimed victory, a strong showing at the Forde Abbey 10K with multiple age-category wins, impressive results at the South West Schools Track & Field Championships including podium finishes and English Schools selections, a national title for Harriet Scott at the Triathle Championships, international representation by Andrew Pate at the World Aquathlon Championships, and yet more PBs at the latest YOAC Evening Open. Well done to everyone who flew the Harriers flag.

New for 2025 and now part of the Somerset Series, the Brean Banger Multi-Terrain Race offers a scenic tour of Brean. The route takes runners along the beach, the riverbank, and the iconic Brean Down. Held on Wednesday, 18th June, a few Harriers made their way to the seaside for what turned out to be a scorcher of an evening—with plenty of Harrier success to celebrate.

Harriers at the Forde Abbey 10K

The latest round in the year long Somerset Race Series saw a bumper entry of 240 runners line up in front of the impressive Abbey buildings before the start.

The course through the estate and out into the surrounding countryside is undulating and challenging. The final kilometre sees competitors wade across the river twice before a final dash to the line.

Three Harriers and two former Harriers (the Glaishers) competed with four of the five coming away with prizes.

South West Schools Track and Field Championships

Exeter, Saturday 22st June

Oskar competed at the South West Schools Championships on Saturday. It was a very hot day on the track with very little shade to be found but it was a good turnout across all events.

Oskar had a great race sticking with the pack and holding lane one! He almost got boxed in and was 4th with 200m to go and he managed to overtake on the home straight and finish 2nd in 2:03.17. There was only 0.98s between 1st and 3rd so a nice close finish!

After a mix up on the podium, where the boys were presented with the 80mH certificates (blame the heat!) they were given the correct certificates and Oskar was very happy with his race.

There were also other Harriers representing Somerset Schools in a variety of events.

Despite being unwell for 2 weeks before the Championships,Tom Webb gamely toed the start line of the 3000m race and, unsurprisingly given his recent illness, trailed in last in 10.45 (His PB being 8.32)

Subsequent to these Championships, three Harriers and three from the Yeovil side of the Club have now been selected to go to the prestigious English Schools Championship to be held at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on the 11th & 12th July.

On Sunday 22nd June, U13 Harrier Harriet Scott won the National Triathle Championships and will represent the GB team at the World Championships in South Africa. Well done Harriet.

World Aquathlon Championships

Pontevedra, Spain - Friday 27 June

Andrew Pate gained selection for this event earlier this year and the day finally arrived for him to swim 1000m in open water and then run 5km.

Representing GB in the V65 age category he completed in 52.32 , finishing 17th out of 25 competitors in this age group drawn from across the World. 3rd GB. His 5k run time was 26.36.
