Heath Hughes Davis extended his winning streak in the Mendip Area Primary Schools XC series, while Rowan Kelly secured back-to-back victories. Sage Onitiri and Bella Gurung also triumphed in the girls' races. Heath also triumphed in the Inter-School Cross Country relay. At the Yeovil Half Marathon, Matt Lusby finished 5th overall in 1:15:01, with Rosie Park leading the female Harriers. On April 6, Matt Lusby placed 2nd in the Big Cheese fell race, and Tim Ingle finished 4th at the Ilminster 10K, where Rachel Glaisher took the First Female V50 title. Kieran O’Connell earned a bronze medal at the Torbay Spring Triathlon, completing a strong start to the month for the club.
Mendip XC Series Round 4

Inter-school Cross Country
On Tuesday 2nd April, Heath Hughes Davis showcased remarkable endurance and determination at the inter-schools Cross Country event at Millfield. Competing in a 5km relay designed for teams of four—each runner covering 1,250m—Heath faced an uphill battle as his school, Elmhurst, did not have a full team. Instead, he partnered with a runner from Mark, forming a two-person team and taking on the challenge of running 2,500m each—double the standard distance.
Despite this disadvantage, the duo delivered an outstanding performance, securing a decisive victory in the Year 2 & Year 4 team event. Their triumph against full four-person teams highlighted their exceptional stamina and teamwork, making their achievement even more impressive.

The Big Cheese
Strong running from the Aspinalls
A group of Wells City Harriers tackled The Big Cheese on Sunday, April 6, the fourth race in the Somerset Series. Starting and finishing in Cheddar, this 15-mile off-road fell race took competitors across the rugged Mendips Hills, with over 2000 ft of climbing.
Unlike the mud-soaked 2024 edition, this year’s event saw hot, dry conditions, making for a completely different challenge.
Matt Lusby delivered an outstanding performance, securing 2nd place and finishing five minutes faster than his 2024 time. Also representing the Harriers were Phoebe Aspinall, Melissa Aspinall, and Kim Clark, all putting in strong efforts on the tough course.
A fantastic showing from the team in one of Somerset’s most demanding off-road races!
