Rowan Kelly set a new junior 1K record while Tom Webb dominated the 5K race with a time of 15:22. Meanwhile, New Balance athlete Elise Thorner achieved a 30-second PB in Boston, running 8:47 in a competitive 3000m field, meeting the European indoor qualifying standard. Early bird entries are now open for the Wells Festival of Running, and upcoming events include the fifth Street 5K on February 12 and various races in the Somerset Series.

Street 5K (Race 4)

The fourth race in the 2024/25 Street 5K series took place on its rescheduled date, Wednesday, 29th January. Despite the earlier postponement, the team did a fantastic job of reorganising the event at short notice.

In the junior 1K race, Rowan Kelly stormed around the course, setting a new record time of 3:26. The first girl to finish was Zoe Frost, who put in a strong performance with a time of 3:56.

The 2K race was won by Toby Hirst in 7:11, with Ruby Shaw, the 1K girls’ record holder, finishing second. She came within just six seconds of matching the 2K girls’ course record, which has stood for an incredible 17 years! Could we see a new record next month?

Well done to all junior runners!

In the 5K, Tom Webb claimed victory with another blistering time of 15:22, finishing over a minute ahead of Peter Grist, who took second place. Sophie Nicholls was the first female finisher, narrowly missing the sub-17:00 mark.

John Thomas Terrier Classic

[Report from Al Thorner]

Elise Thorner had an awesome run last night (Friday 31st January 2025) in a stacked 3000m field in Boston. She ran 8.47 (European indoor qualifying standard) for 5th place out of 21 behind Nikki Hiltz, US 1500m star and Olympic 1500m finalist.

She went in as the only girl in the race with a PB outside 9 mins (9.17) so a 30 second PB! She's very happy!
