The Big Day approaches!
At this stage in the proceedings your training is all done - you should just be
keeping active (maybe a 20 minute jog on Friday but make sure that you rest the day
before) in preparation for Sunday 29th when you will be running a 5K race - the Wells
Fun Run may well be your first race, and it is important to enjoy it, so here is
some advice:
- do warm-up properly (walk and jog first, then stretch, then more gentle jogging).
Aim to finish warming up about 5 or 10 minutes before the race
- do eat some breakfast, but don't eat later than about 8:30 or 9 o'clock
- do drink a little water about half an hour before the race
- do allow time to collect your number from the Registration desk and don't forget
to pin your number to the front of your tee-shirt with four safety pins
- do run the first half of the race slowly, but don't worry too much about running-slowly-enough-to-talk
towards the end
- do bring some friends to support you at the finish
- do feel proud of yourself - it's a great achievement!
- do eat some carbohydrates and don't get cold after you finish (put extra layers
on)
- do take a rest from running for a few days after the race
- do look for the race results at www.wellscityharriers.org.uk/wells
- do join a local running club so that you can continue to take exercise with friends
See you there!
