Shepton Mallet Fun Run 2007
I am happy to report the Shepton Mallet Fun Run was a success! The atmosphere was friendly and fun and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Despite the 5 & 10k cancellation teams turned up to enter the Fun Relay Race instead. In addition there were 59 entries for the 1k Junior Run. There's an abundance of excellent photos in the Rogues Gallery. Junior results are on the Results Page too!
Results for the Team Relay are as follows: Team Relay 1st Overall Team/1st Adult Team - Shepton Mallet Fire & Rescue 1st All Male Team - Chalmers HB Male Team 1st All Female Team - Chalmers HB Female Team 1st Junior Team - Shepton Harriers - Vera & Elisabete Assis, Abigail Gibbons & Rebecca Watts 1st Mixed Age Group Team - Shepton Speedos - Ella-Rose Bazely-Jackson, Mason Young, Jane & Callum Watts. Best Fancy Dress - Funky Friends - Larissa & Amber-Mae Curtis, Alice Meen and Chloe Jones.
It was an exciting close race for 1st between the SM Fire & Rescue and Calmers HB Male Team - might have had something to do with the 1st Adult Team hamper of 'An Abundance of Alcohol!' The Junior Race was also looking close at the start - however the Shepton Harrier Team worked hard to gain a lead just big enough to win the Junior Hamper Prize.
I would like to thank my sponsors Paul Knight Estate Agents, David Winter & Chalmers HB Accountants, Haydn Davis of Wells Reclamation Company.
For all their valued help I would also like to thank - Andrew, Gill, Alison and Tim Deamer + friend (?!) for the results process, Terry Exell - especially for the fab photos, Paul Chadwick, Helen Rutter, Sue Cook, Rachel Wray, Jon James, Tatiana & Chris Storie, Linda Bates, her sister and brother-in-law (!) and of course my husband Karl as well as Rebecca, Jane and Callum Watts!
I'm currently considering whether or not to run the Team Relay again next year and would welcome comments from those who took part or were spectators.
I've been organising this mostly on my own for three years (I took over from Sue Cook) with much help on the day from Wells City Harriers many of whom are also involved in the Wells or other Fun Runs. I'd like to have some more local WCH people (from Shepton or close surrounding villages) helping with the chores building up to the event. Among other things I need a good communicator to help with promoting the race to local schools, sports clubs, the Scouts, Cubs, Girl Guides, Brownies, Air cadets that sort of thing!
