The previous day Saturday 11th Sept was the second year for the Somerset Levels Moors Marathon and for the first time a half marathon distance organised by Langport Running Club starting and finishing from Bowdens Crest Caravan and camping site.
Whilst the 26.2 miles didn’t tempt any Harriers, the half marathon saw Les Lock finishing 3rd overall and first Vet 50 in a time 1.41.51. Pete Wright also competed the distance in 1.57.58 placed 17th and first Vet 60.
Sunday 12th saw a large gathering of runners lining up across Ash School’s playing field near Martock to contest the Fun run, a 3k juniors race, the Fearsome Five and the Excellent Eight races, (part of the Somerset Series).
The Fun run attracted 160 runners young and old, with Ash School Juniors making up the majority of entrants. Wells Juniors Luke Prior was the winner from 2nd placed James Bridge, headed the chasing pack with Michael Biss 11th. Jake Noad 29th, Georg Biss 56th.
The 3k had 17 juniors taking part with Matthew Dickinson U15 winning in a time 12.04 from Matthew Cole U15 2nd, 13.16 and Sam Sommerville 1st U13, third overall in a time 13.45. Rebecca Carver was the leading junior female, 2nd Abbie Gibbons, 3rd Lilly Hawkins all under 15’s.
The 5 mile and 8 mile races started together, the combined field of approx 160 runners following a multi-terrain course, which separated after the first mile, the shorter distance saw junior Kieran Young from Bristol & West AC (U17) 30.00 take the honours ahead of WCH Simon Prior 2nd overall ( V40) in 30.54, Dickie Wythe 3rd (1st V50) in 31.21. Katrina Prior 10th was 2nd female (1st FV35) 36.03.
Other Harriers:- C.Rafferty 6th, G.Cole 7th P.Wright 11th, M.Gibbons 38th.
The 8 mile race had a clear win for Taunton AC’s Luke Scott clocking 48.46, 2nd Nathan Young, with Pete Darton 3rd. Jenny Moore was 4th overall first female (V45).
