Wells City Harriers – Shepton Mallet Fun Run, 5k and 10k races.

 

The annual Shepton Mallet fun run and 5k + 10k races held last Sunday 3rd Oct saw a large gathering of runners and families supporting young and old across all events. With the heavy rain and windy conditions diminishing as the races got under way there were many spirited runs especially with juniors tackling 2 laps (1km) of the rain soaked playing fields.

 

Prizes for 1st,2nd & 3rd  were awarded for boys and girls age groups U7’s, U9’s, U11’s and U13’s. Many local schools took part with Croscombe being the most represented. For the winners see the listed results.

   

With over 200 record entries for the 5k/10k races Wells City Harriers provided many of the winners amongst the 25 harriers taking part.

 

10k overall Peter Grist  clocked an impressive 34:10 ahead of the leading junior male Nathan Young representing Bristol & West, Iain Payne was 3rd  .

 

Other Harriers taking awards were Nick Somerville 1st Vet 50, Rex Whitcombe 3rd V50, with Carol Buckland taking the V45  1tst prize.

 

Other Harriers included Matthew Lewis 7th, Chris Williams 15th, David Camell 22nd, Mike Rusca 39th, Tom Matthews 42nd, Claire Thomas 83rd, Jenna Noad 89th, Garfield Kennedy 113th, Shelia Patterson 114th, Emma Jupp 115th, Sharon Bowles 124th, Haydn Davies 142nd.

 

The 5k race saw another Wells Harrier take the honours Curtis Stevens winning in a time of 17:41, ahead of Kieran Young (19.00) Bristol & West AC, with V40 Mike Harvey of Yeovil 3rd just ahead of 4th placed Wells junior Samuel Hardin both recording identical times who won the 1st local prize.

 

Wells junior females were lead home by Rebecca Carver 1st clocking 19.42; 2nd place was Abbie Gibbons.

 

Other 5k finishers included Lewis Clarke 9th, Gary Sheridan 10th, Esme Sheridan 11th, Hayley Carver 13th Marcus Gibbons 25th. Local awards also went to Lewis, Hayley and Gary 2nd V40 trophy.
