Whilst the aches and pain of the 26 miles are now behind those incredible runners who completed the London Marathon there are some memorable moments for the Wells Harriers contingent of 11 runners.

Wells outstanding lady was Jenny Moore who improved her personal best by some 3 minutes and clocked just 3 hours and a mere three seconds, having started from the elite womens start she was to record a 55th overall position and was a superb 6th place within the 40 age group. Her time was achieved despite the very hot conditions and makes her the front runner for the annual Harriers award "The Kevin Sheppard Marathon Trophy" in 2007.

Matt Harris was the first Harrier man home. He recorded an excellent 3.33, whilst Ann Taswell who made her debut over the marathon distance suffered with heat exhaustion and  was disappointed with her run finishing a few minutes later. Karl Watts ran an impressive 3.42.53, and was closely matched by John Russell who was right on his heels with a 3.43.29.

Heat proved too much also for Pete Darton as he clocked 4.10.26 well outside his projected training times which would have seen him finishing at least an hour earlier. Like many others it was the last 5 miles that saw him walk in.

Ben Cane beat the 5 hour target and Haydn Davies had a steady race not too far behind. Wells prolific fund raiser and vet 60 Ian MacQueen again proved what can be achieved despite limited training clocking 5.28.38 and Maureen Andrews finished clocking 6.28 which was a great 14 minutes quicker than before. Another Harrier running for charity was one of the Harriers Cross Country coaches Debbie Keeble raising £2500 in her first marathon for the British Legion Appeal.

Well done to every single one of them and good luck to all others that competed. We shall report on other Harrier efforts at marathons this spring when we have news.
