Tickner scorches to victory
Despite the steady rain,
Wells City Harrier’s Ben Tickner ran
away from the field at the Yeovilton 5km road race last Wednesday when he won
in a convincing 15.02. This makes it two victories out of two in this summer
series. Team-mate Jon James came
home in 2nd place with 15.35 for first veteran home. Matthew Lewis completed the Harriers in
the first ten with his nippy 17.32 for 10th place.
The first two women home
were also Harriers with Jenny Moore,
fresh from her sub-3 hour marathon effort running 18.40 here and followed in by
Katerina Prior running close to her
lifetime best (from many years ago) with 19.43. As usual there was also some
great running by juniors at the races with pick of the bunch for the Harriers
being Abigail Gibbons stepping up to
the distance with her debut 19.50 here. It was also good to se Becky Lee back
competing again after a long time out with injury.
Other good times at the Yeovilton
5km race were by Paul Chadwick,
20.08; Gary Tubridy 20.27; Rex Whitcombe 20.37; Mike Rusca 20.46; Lily Hawkins 20.55; Simon
Carr 21.27; Carol Buckland
21.48; Becky Lee 22.38’ Callum Moir 22.42; Esme Sheridan 22.45; Gary
Sheridan 22.46; Marcus Gibbons
28.05; Clive Gibbons 28.17; Kay Franklin 29.35.
In the accompanying junior
races at Yeovilton there was another victory for Luke Prior in the 2 lap race in the heavy downpour just before the
main race.
