Cotswold Way Relay – The Other Teams

That was the trial run – next year we do it for real!

First I must say I big thank you again to everybody for all there support in making this years CWR such a resounding success – and to think it was my first year and I was only supposed to be organizing the MH4 team, but with (not) a lot of arm twisting from Dr Bob I found myself doing the WCH team too!

Starting of with special thanks to John (2 legs) Reynolds, for standing in at the last minute for Aiden on leg 8, and Pete Wright and Rod Appleby, who I still have not met, for being very patient with me and filling the last 2 places on legs 3 and 7 respectively, very much last minute also!

Also special praise to Ian Noad, highest finisher in 7th on leg 9, John Rance for 12th on leg 7 and Dave (boy) Bonstow for 13th on leg 5, not forgetting James Whittaker who ran an amazing 1:40 finishing in 18th on leg 4, all this having survived a little incident involving a house jumping out in front of his car on the day before!

Thank you to the Gorgeous Girlies of Elly, leg 10, Laurie, leg 8 without Aiden, and Clara (Prosser), leg 5 with Dave – good looking and so refine…..and so fit too!

I would also like to congratulate ‘The Rock Steady Crew’ of Ian Carpenter, leg 6 (Dr) Bob Powell, leg 2, Terry Kingham, leg 3 and for coming all the way from Sunny ‘Lanson’ in Cornwall, Jim Benson, Leg 6.

Well done, and thanks also to the WCH ‘boys’ of Paul Chadwick, leg 2, Jason Keast, leg 4 and Andrew (could do better) Deamer, leg 9 – thankfully Andrew is one of the few people I can say that to, and get away with it! – next year Andrew, leg 10 for you?!

Finally to 'Mad' Martin (Caractacus-Potts) Berkeley, only a nutcase would volunteer for leg 1 (12 miles with a 7am start) after planning to spend all weekend at The Glastonbury Festival, then to have to leave the site at 1.10 am on the Saturday morn, with 3 hrs sleep get up at 4.30 in the morning, and then spend ½ hour tidying his car outside John Reynold’s house because he got there too early!

Team 57 - Wells City Harriers finished 24 – out of 68

Team 58 - MH4 finished 20 – out of 68

Well done everybody, a fantastic effort, and I still think we can get into the top ten…..watch this space!

Mike

Ps - Final thanks to the WCH photographer! from all of us on leg 10?! :-(
