Baltonsborough Races
The bank holiday weekend
saw Baltonsborough hosting the annual races for
junior and fun runners covering a 1.5 mile course whilst the slightly more
serious runners tackled the 5 mile circuit.
The village race owes its
origin to Wells City Harrier Andrew Hennessy who conjured up the 5 mile event
somewhere around 1994 when he was approaching the final year at senior school
some 15 years later the races are firmly established and attracts entries of
around 150 runners.
This years races saw an
enthusiastic field of juniors and fun runners which were lead home by Wells
Harrier Curtis Stevens clocking 9.03 in a close finish with Jacob Hood from
Weston AC 2 seconds apart , Rebecca Carver was first junior female in a tied
finish with Ben Bodley from Somer
AC each credited with 9.45.

The senior race featured
some ultra quick times with the top 5 clocking sub 30 minutes,
winner was Andrew Hennessy who travelled from Ipswich to record another win on
home territory in a time of 26.27 at 5.17 Min/mile pace.
6 Harriers filled the top
places and it was a delighted 2nd placed Eddie Richards who has
returned to competing after a long absence through injury, 3rd
placed Jack Bancroft was hot on the heels clocking an impressive 27.44
Wells winning veteran V50 Dickie Wythe in 4th
place headed home an outstanding run from Alex Wiltshire and another leading
Wells veteran Leslie Lock closed the top 6 positions.
The leading ladies where
headed by Wells Anna Lewis clocking
31.55 in 14th place overall, 2nd lady Nicky Russell (1st
V35) with 3rd female and first V45 placed lady. Marion
Colman picked up the V55 award.
Amongst the 20 Harriers
finishers were:-
S. Prior 11th, M.Lewis 13th, R.Little
21st, R.Whitcombe 24th, Rex Whitcombe 26th, C.Buckland
29th, P.Wright 31st, N.Edwards 32nd , P. Challis 65th, M.Broomgrove 70th , S.Cook
76th, J.Adams 82nd.
The final Yeovil mid week
