Ash “Excellent Eight”

 

A large number of participants of all ages took part in the series of races held at Ash Junior School the previous weekend.  Distances of 3K, 5 Mile and 8 Miles plus a fun run tempted juniors and seniors around the various courses all enjoying the late summers day.

The event now in its 13th year saw a many Wells Harriers competing, with a number recording successes on the day.

The fun run mainly supported by the school’s pupils and parents had approximately 150 runners as did the Multi-terrain 8 mile race with smaller numbers of 25 for each of the 3k and 5 mile races.

WCH’s Cameron Rafferty and Matthew Cole were 1st and 2nd in the 3k, with Laura Parker winning the 5 mile in a time of 29.42, 2nd place and leading vet 40 was Simon Prior (31:12), with Stuart Marsh V50 in 7th position clocking 35:31.

The fun run saw Well’s junior Luke Prior crossing the line in first place ahead James Bridge of Yeovil Olympiads in a winning time of 9:45. Michael Bliss in 8th place and George Bliss 38th were well placed in the large field of over 150.

An outstanding run by Jenny Moore (FV45) in the 8 mile race saw her finish as first lady in a time of 54:25 placed 7th overall ahead of Les Lock 8th (S.W. Vets) who won the V50 award clocking 55:14.
