Butleigh Multi-Terrain 2009
The 27th Butleigh Multi-Terrain race held on Sunday 15th March attracted 70 entrants with Wells City Harriers fielding 21 runners some of whom ran the previous day in the final Gwent cross country league event. It was also race no3 in the Somerset Series.
The Butleigh Playing Field Association hosted the event supported by Wells Harriers. The day’s activities included junior races for Under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s and 15’s.

U8’s:- 1stMica Clarke, 2nd Ben Hughes, 3rd Jacob Potts.
U10’s:- 1st Fin Innes, 2nd Victoria Prior, 3rd Oliver Hughes
U12’s:- 1st Luke Prior, 2nd Danny Kennedy, 3rd Abbie Gibbons
U15’s:- 1st Callum Moir, 2nd Hector Simms-Preston, 3rd Lily Cooper.
A sparkling spring morning greeted the assembled field and with excellent conditions the multi-terrain race start saw 2 main front runners quickly pull clear with the chasing pack loosing touch after 2 miles. Gerry Hogg and Paul Rose of Yeovil, both vet 40’s, clocked impressive times of 44:43 mins and 45: 43 respectively with overall winner Hogg having his time adjusted after a missed direction.
Les Lock strengthened his Somerset series standing with 5th place clocking 47:17, whilst Karen Bentham of Yeovil won the Ladies Cup.
Colin Williams was awarded the Vet 60 prize and Wells Harrier James Hardy won the magnificent B.P.F.A New Pavilion Trophy as first Butleigh resident.
As ever with fine fare and fabulous cakes the 27th Butleigh MT and junior races were enjoyed by all, many thanks to all helpers and marshals.
