Joint Yeovil and Wells team win again!

The combined Yeovil and Wells track and field team again dominated at the third fixture of the South West Athletics League Division One fixture held at Exeter arena. This was despite a number of athletes being unable to compete due to their being involved in the Somerset Athletics Talent camp at Millfield held on the same weekend. With just one League fixture remaining the team is in pole position to finish top in the region, having won all the 3 fixtures to date. The final fixture takes place on Sept 7th

From the Wells Harrier contingent there were some excellent performances. In the u’13 girls, Roo Black went over 1.45m to win the High jump, just shy of her current personal best, and  also achieved a 3rd place in the shot with 6.58m and 3rd place in the long jump with a 4.27m leap. Emily Smith was 2nd in the 800m with a good 2.39.9, and with Abigail Gibbons claiming 3rd place in the B string with her 3.04.04 this was a good points haul for the team. Emily also gained a 4th in the B string long jump with 3.48m and 6th in the 200m with 31.3. Abigail Gibbons managed a 6th in the 100m with 15.8. Roo, Emily and Abigail had all attended the training camp at Millfield the day before so all three were pretty weary by the end of the weekend.

Curtis Stevens had to withdraw from the u’13 boys team following a slight injury picked up at the Millfield event, but fortunately the combined team was able to call on reserves to achieve good points totals. In the u’17 men’s team Alex Wiltshire, whose next track competition will be at the English Schools Championships on Friday 11th, ran 4.17.5 for 2nd place in the 1500m. He was up against one of his big rivals, Charlie MacLean who will also face him on Friday in the 1500m steeplechase event for the Schools medals. Alex showed his team commitment here with his 4th place in the 100m race to pick up more points for the team. Also competing here, for the first time in the SW League, was Craig Bateman who ran a good 24.8 for the 200m in the B’ string for 3rd place.

Good luck to Alex at the English Schools Championships.

Well done also to all those Harriers that attended the SASP event at Millfield – there were over a dozen Harrier juniors there on the talented athlete and Year 6 Programmes.
