Years7 & 8 Wednesday June 11th
Years 9 & above Saturday June 14th
On the Wednesday Roo Black
won at the Year 7 & 8 Somerset Schools Championships with a 1.38m jump.
This was well below Roo’s personal best of 1.46m but
it was still a championship’s best performance. Also in the same age group for
the girls was Emily Smith winning
both the 800m in 2.38 and the 70m Hurdles in 12.81. Vera Assis also had a great run in the
1500m for 2nd and was 2nd behind Emily in the Hurdles.
For the boys, Year 7 Curtis Stevens
won his 1500m race in 4.52 and was 2nd in the Long jump with 4.25m,
whilst Jordan Boobyer
went in the 1500m here rather than competing at his preferred throws. For the
Year 8s Henry Brown doubled up in the
sprints picking up a good 2nd place in the 100m, whilst Tristan Goldsmid
was 4th in the 1500m race. Final times/performances still awaited.
In the Year 9 and above
school championships on Saturday 14th June top billing goes to Laura Parker who ran away with the
Senior girls 800m race in a nippy 2.16.71 which is a new personal best by over
2 seconds and takes her to 8th on the regional rankings. Laura is
also currently 3rd on the national power of ten rankings for 1.5km steeplechase
with 5.12.6
Meanwhile in the inter-girls Schools Championship competition Laura’s sister Natalie Parker was 2nd in the 300m Hurdles with 50.87 and 3rd in the 80m sprint hurdles with 12.99. This latter mark places her 13th on the regional rankings Meanwhile Alex Wiltshire was 3rd in the inter boys 1500m race with a solid 4.15.05 which is 5 seconds down on his best for the season(4.10.56) a mark that places him 7th in the regional rankings. John Richardson had an excellent run in the Inter boys 800m with a nippy 2.10.77, just outside of the medals in 4th place.
