Masters back on form at Haselbury Aug 6th
2008
There was a good number of
Harriers at the latest edition of the Haselbury Trail race this past Wednesday.
Despite the rain of the previous 24 hours the evening was sunny, but the course
was muddy in parts and slippy over the stiles. This resulted in times being
generally slower compared to last year. There were 147 toeing the start line
outside the North Perrot Cricket Club grounds.
First home for the Harriers
was Steve Masters in a great
5th place in a time of 40.26, just 2 minutes down on the winner Paul
Rose of Yeovil Town. Steve was followed in by the club’s top V50 athlete Les Lock who ran 43.02, which followed
up his previous weekend run at the Sturminster Half where he recorded 82.20 for
17th place there. Les was 12th overall. Rod Appleby was next in 34th
with 47.50 and close on his heels in 36th was Paul Chadwick in 48.09. This was Paul’s
first race in 4 months after a long spell out through injury, whilst Rod is
still carrying a foot injury. Both were pleased to get round in reasonable
times.
Alan Hunter managed to just stay ahead of Nick Edwards all the way round with the
pair finishing in 52nd and 54th positions with times of
50.28 and 50.42. Alan had also competed at the Stur Half the previous weekend
finishing there in 94.37. Martin
Collins was 77th in 54.57. The sole Harrier woman was Kay Franklin and she recorded an
excellent 68.45 for 138th place.
Kay is now gearing up to organise the forthcoming Bank Holiday Monday road race for adults and juniors at Baltonsborough. The race is part of the annual Show with stalls and other attractions for all the family and the race starting at 11.00am. See Harrier website for entry form.
