Butleigh 2008
The second race in the Somerset Series was held at Butleigh last Sunday amid stormy skies and the odd blustery shower 67 competitors braved the conditions to complete the 7 mile circuit over woodland tracks, fields and lanes. Starting and finishing from the village playing fields with the new sports pavilion proving an excellent facility for all taking part.
Fastest man on the day was Chris Burton from Yeovil Town Road Runners who scorched around the slippery and muddy course in 44mins.12secs. Yeovil were out in force despite the venue clashing with the Grizzly race in Seaton. Luke Scott from Taunton AC took second place half a minute down on the leader and Paul Levick in Yeovil colours in third place was to carry off the Vet 40 award in a time of 44.55.
Wells leading man was Steve Masters in forth position clocking 46.10 also 2nd V40. The top twenty places were shared between Yeovil, Taunton, Crewkerne and Wells. In amongst the bunch from the Harriers were Ed Willingham 6th in 48.48, Graham Goldsmid 11th in 52.31, Jason Keast 12th in 54.40, John Reynolds 13th 55.12, Rod Little 16th 56.05, Mike Scadding 19th 56.22.
Steph Moss from Tiverton won the ladies category clocking 59.31. Among the award winners were Pat Challis, with Wells ladies finishers including Cath Goldsmid, Hilary Wood, and Kay Franklin.

There was the usual excellent spread of post race cakes and refreshments and thanks go out to all 30 marshals who gladly supported the event, race proceeds helping towards the Butleigh Playing Field funds.
