Street 5k, 2k & 1k races March 2008 & Series round up

Well done to all that took part in the final race of the 2007/08 Street Series races on March 12th. As usual there were a good number of juniors for the shorter distance races and a competitive field for the ‘long’ distance. Taking top billing on the night were Julian Emery of Clevedon AC and Nicola Morgan of the Harriers at the 5k; Nathan Smeeton and Abigail Gibbons at 1k; and Curtis Stevens and Vera Assis at the 2k distance.

In the 5k race Julian Emery scorched round in 16.04 which isn’t bad given that he’s suffered injury this winter and is now coming back into some form. He was chased home by 1st v40, Harrier Jon James (16.09) who likewise is starting to get back to some of his form of old. 3rd place on the night went to the relative youngster Nathan Young of MAC in 16.36. Amongst the women, Nicola Morgan once again stamped her authority on the race and won comfortably here with her 19.36. 2nd place went to 13 year old Harrier Kayley Kennedy in 20.57, and then 3rd place 1st F35 Linda Cummins of YTRR in 21.18. Good luck to Nicola and Kayley when they run for the County on Saturday in the Inter Counties XC at Nottingham.

Further down the field, 1st V50 on the night was Martin Lascelles of YTRR in 18.36; 1st V60 Brian Mountjoy-Row (YTRR) in 22.29; and 1st F45 Julia Hector in 25.10.

In the 1km race Nathan Smeeton made a clean sweep of the races with his 1st place in 3.35, closely chased by James Williams 3.47 and Harrier Danny Kennedy in 3.52. Harrier Abigail Gibbons once again won for the girls in 3.57, ahead of Chloe Martin in 4.32. Well done to all the 1k’ers!

In the 2km race Harrier Curtis Stevens saved his best performance for this final race when winning in 7.10 ahead of his close rival Kieran Young of MAC in 7.21. Harrier Vera Assis once again ran away with the girl’s race in a time of 7.45 with Adele Martin next in 8.08.

Overall series awards were made immediately after the races with Race Director Clive Thomas once again doing the honours for the Harriers by making the presentations:

We look forward to welcoming all our friends again next October when the 20th Series will get underway with Race number 115. Well done to Clive Thomas for master-minding the Series since 1988.
