Pete Grist followed up his 2nd place in the Easter Bunny 10k race with the same placing in the 5k road race held last Wednesday from Yeovilton. The race was the first in this summer’s series that takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month through to September. 18 Wells Harriers toed the start line in the field of 145.
Pete’s nippy time of 15.35 was just 10 seconds behind the winner, Dan Moore of Bristol AC. Junior Tom Lock was next home for the Harriers in 16.54, just ahead of Rob Parfitt in 17.03 in pretty perfect racing conditions. Les Lock just outgunned Dickie Wythe to be first V50 Harrier home, but Les was beaten here by evergreen Kevin Sparey of Avon Valley Runners in the same age category.
Junior Alex Wiltshire used the race as a speed test for this
weekend’s London Mini Marathon where along with a number of other Harriers
including Charlie MacLean and Graham Goldsmid they compete for
Harrier positions and times:

Harriers wish all local competitors including the 10 or so Club members all the best at this Sunday’s London Marathon. First to start for the Harriers will be Jenny Moore of Ansford who is making her London debut and has been awarded a Women’s elite start commencing at 9.00am before the mass start at 9.45am.
