Street 5km March 07 Race & series round up

The final race in the Harrier’s 2006/07 Street 5km Series saw Harrier Ann Taswell first home for the women in a steady 18.48 despite the fact that she is currently in London Marathon training and completing large volumes of miles in training. Winning for the men was Tim Wallis of the Bristol & West club in a nippy time of 15.27, with first Harrier home Eddie Richards coming back into form with 16.17 for 4th place.  Eddie is now in training for Glastonbury! There were 24 Harriers competing in the main race and a further dozen Harrier juniors in the accompanying 1km and 2km races. Many thanks to Race Director, Clive Thomas who has now masterminded 18 years of these races and to all the marshals that help make it happen year in year out.

Clevedon’s Julian Emery was in 2nd place and his team mate Steve Hollier, whilst only 2nd V50 with a time of 17.35, had the best age-graded result, 86.9%, of the night. 1st V50 was that man Dickie Wythe. 1st V60 once again Colin Money. 1st F55 was Marion Colman.

In the junior races there was a great turn out by enthusiastic youngsters aged 8 to 12. The 1km race was won by Harrier Naomi Marable in 3.44, with Tom Day just behind in 3.46, Year 5 Abigail Gibbons 3rd in 3.57, and Year 4 Haiden Watts 4th in 4.04. In the 3km race Kieran Young won again in 7.07 with Harriers Austin Thorne, 2nd, Curtis Stevens, 3rd and 1st girl Vera Assis all close behind. The future looks bright for the Harriers.

Overall Series winners for 06/07 based on the best 5 performances, out of 6, were Andrew Deamer of the Harriers for the men with Linda Cummins of Yeovil Town Road Runners. Andrew’s Tuesday evening training with the Harriers is finally paying off after 10 years! Andrew followed up his success in the Street Series with overall V40 victory in the Wessex XC League just 5 days later. What’s he going to win next?

In overall 2nd place were Harrier’s British Masters champion Dickie Wythe and Weston AC’s  Teresa King. 3rd placers were MAC’s Ottalie Day, once again in the top 3, and the Harriers’ Tom Lock. Well done to all that managed to complete at least 5 out of 6 races to gain the coveted T shirt.

See you all in October 2007 for the 109th edition of the Street races!
