The Stupendous Seventh Cheddar Half Marathon

Near perfect running condition greeted the field for this popular local event.  It was a crisp, sunny day with the sharp wind only a problem for a short part of the return journey.  The course was mostly flat on some busy roads, and was well marshalled by the Cheddar Running Club.  With an entry limited to about 300 it is a favourite for Personal Best times, and some of the athletic clubs came “mob handed” to make the best of the opportunity.  The 279 finishers were greeted at the end by a welcomed table of bananas and spot prizes, and even got hot showers!

Wells City Harriers were represented by six runners, all finishing under the two hour bogey time.  First home was Bob Powell (84th, 1:38:26), followed closely by Carol Buckland (108th, 1:41:51).  Next came Jane Whittaker, back from injury in a creditable 156th place (1:49:49) just ahead of John Brown (161st, 1:50:30).  Pat Challis made a strong return to form (192nd, 1:56:39) to pip Chris Ross (196th, 1:56:50) at the post.
