Harriers win in the Somerset Race Series 2009:

In the 14th year of this Series the Harriers once again had a number of award winners.  Jenny Moore was duly crowned Somerset Series Champion for the 5th year in succession.  She was 1st in 7 of the 8 races that counted and 2nd in the other.

Series placings are based on an athlete’s best 8 results from the 16 race Series.  Kay Franklin won the F65 age crown. Les Lock and Paul Chadwick sealed their 1-2 in the M50 category with good runs at the final race at a muddy Brent Knoll.

The Race Series was instigated by Paul working with representatives from 5 other Clubs back in 1996.  It was sponsored by a division of Clarks, and was called the CICA 6 based on 6 races.  Further sponsorship in the late 1990’s from Adidas enabled the Series to be expanded to 8 and then 12 races, until in the early 2000s we arrived at 16 races organised by 9 Somerset clubs.  he Series is now supported by all the clubs and by the Somerset Athletic Association.

The first race in the 2010 Series will be the Hestercombe Humdinger in February. See Fixtures.
