Wells City Harriers

Magical is the memory of the Mendip Muddle a 20 km off road multi-terrain race which has captivated all who negociated this beautiful natural extravaganza so superbly organised by Weston AC since the 1990’s.  420 metres of ascent contribute to the toughness of the event which starts and finishes from the Charterhouse Activity Centre.

This year’s race proved to be the most popular so far with a record entry and number of finishers all proceeds supporting the RNLI charity; fine weather was a bonus.

The overall winner was John Duncan a V50 from Bristol comfortable clear to cross the finish in 1:24:49.  Les Lock proved yet again to be the quickest Wells Harrier finishing 18th (2nd V50) in a time of 1:33:08 with Tom Lock not too far adrift clocking 1:35:11 in 21st place.  Graham Goldsmid was the third WCH finish in 31st place 1:38:03.

Paul Chadwick headed a number of Wells runners including Stuart Palmer and Paul Knight who are running the Snowdonia Marathon in 2 weeks time whilst Laurie and Aidan Phippard ran together till an earlier injury proved too much for Aidan at the half way stage.  There were 20 harriers taking part including Sue Cook buoyant after a serious knee injury.
