It was a very wet Sunday, but
despite the dreadful forecast, 253 runners completed the Wellington 10 mile and
188 the newly introduced Wellington 10km although event organisers had to
reorganise the parking as the waterlogged fields were out of bounds. In fact
the runners were probably grateful that it was not the usual unbearably hot
event it often proves to be. The course was largely uphill on the first
half and downhill the 2nd.
Wells was represented in both events
with the women getting the best placings in their categories.
In the 10km Ann Taswell was 1st V35 finishing 22nd
overall in 42:53. Elaine de St Paer also
had a good run, finishing in 1:02. In the 10 mile the fastest time by a
Harrier was Senior, James Hardy finishing 11th overall in
1:03. Jenny Moore was 2nd woman, 1st V35 and 20th overall in
1:05. Not far behind was partner, Rod Appleby V40 - 31st in 1:07.
Mike Scadding, V50 in his last run before he takes an enforced couple of
months break ran another PB in 1:14 but unfortunately does not appear in the
official results as yet. Sue Cook in her 2nd race as V45 was 103rd in
1:16 and Tracey Halliday V35 not far behind in
1:19. Chris Ross, V60, rumoured to be prepping for another marathon run
in France, was 175th in 1:28 and Kay Franklin V55 had a splendid run completing
the race for the Harriers in 1:36 (216th).
Incidentally - Jenny M and Mike S, times
seem to be getting better and better - Jenny was 3 mins faster than last year
and Mike, 8 mins!!
