Palmer & Moore Bring Home The Bacon: Jones Half Century at Half Century

Five intrepid members of the Wells City Harriers travelled to Llangollen in North Wales to take part in the 25th Snowdonia Marathon last weekend.

Jenny Moore continued her sparkling form this season by taking first place in her category (female vet 40+) and second lady, and 46th overall in an impressive time of 3:14:24.

Stuart Palmer and Paul Knight, both novices to this particular event, ran together for the first 21 miles before Knight “hit the wall” on the final 1,000 foot ascent at Waun Fach along the so called “pig track”.

However, Palmer kicked hard and put over 10 minutes on Knight during the last 6 miles, passing over 30 runners, and finished the event in 109th overall and took the trophy for first male vet 55+ in his category in a time of 3:27:59.

Knight limped home in 3:38:34 (178th overall and 27th in his category (male vet 45+)).

Neil Jones, a veteran of 8 Snowdonia Marathons, came home in an impressive 3:51:55 (321st overall, 33rd MV50+), a few minutes ahead of newcomer John Reynolds (3:58:11, 391st overall,  49th MV45) which meant that all the Harriers came home within the top 25% of over 1,600 entrants.  Neil was also celebrating the achievement of his 50th Marathon in his 50th year – that is over 1300 miles!

Despite the atrocious wet & windy conditions, and over 4,200 feet of ascent, all five enjoyed the event and are already talking about next year’s marathon program.
