Fast times at January’s Street 5k
There was another good turn out of athletes from across the County and further afield at the Harrier’s monthly midweek Street 5km road race last Wednesday. Julian Emery of Clevedon AC went one better than earlier in the series with his winning time of 15.44 never troubled by any in the chasing group. There were also a handful of runners taking part for the first time ever as part of their New Year resolution to get fit.
For the Harriers it was left to Steve Masters and Andrew Deamer to once again battle for honours. Steve got the edge with his 17.02 just one second ahead of Andrew for 4th and 5th places respectively. Top V50 man Dickie Wythe was back in 8th place with his 17.07, whilst top V60 was once again Colin Money with his 22.09.
For the women Linda Cummins of Yeovil Town RR shows that she is making steady progress on the way to getting back to full fitness following a major injury over 18 months ago. She is using the monthly Street races as a gauge of her fitness towards taking part at the London Marathon in April. Here she ran 20.44 for first woman home, and there’s still a chance with two further editions of Street to go this season that she’ll get back down to around 20.00 for this distance. For the Harriers, honours went to Marion Colman, 1st F45 with her 22.59 and to Pat Challis, 1st F55, with her 25.10.
