Forest of Dean Trails Half Marathon, Sunday 25th March, 2007.

It may not have had all of the razzmatazz of the other Half Marathon in Bath (1200 instead of 12,000 runners) but it this race was probably far more fulfilling if you wanted scenery and good running conditions.

5 Wells Harriers crossed the Severn into a fairly murky forest, but that made the temperature just about perfect for this well organised event through tracks and trails.  It was excellently supported by local groups including Navy Cadets, Scouts and Army Cadets who ran the well spaced water stops and well managed car parks.  Many other events could learn something from this.

As far as the Wells contingent was concerned, it was nip and tuck at the finish, with Viv Fursland heading the pack in 301st (1:42:38) just ahead of an ailing Sue Cook (all say ah!) (308, 1:42:54) and Bob Powell (316, 1:43:17).  Not far behind were Terry Kingham (486, 1:49:49) and Jane Whittaker (576, 1:53:03).  There were 1,149 starters, showing that this is becoming a very popular venue – book early for next year!
