Harriers at The Edinburgh Marathon

Nine Harriers, four men and five ladies ran in the Edinburgh Marathon and Marathon Relay, last Sunday.  The race was run in high temperatures, starting at 9 am.

The five ladies were in The Hairy Haggis Team Relay running distances ranging from four to eight miles.

As the sun blazed down for most of the day, the runners all ran well to finish in Holyrood Park which lies next to Arthur’ Seat  near the centre of the city.

The Lady’s Relay Team of Angela Thomas (7.7 miles) Helen Rutter  (4.2 miles), Tatiana Storie (5.6 miles), Hilary Wood (3.5 miles),and last leg runner Rachel Wray (5.2 miles) ran well to record a time of 3 hours 51 minutes.

The Marathon Men’s times were extremely good as it was so hot.  Martin Bailey led the men home with a time of 3 hours 14 min.  Martin’s aim was to run under 3 hours 15 minutes; so he was pleased with his result. Next home was Ben Cane in a time of 3 hours 47 minutes who was just in front of Karl Watts who ran 3 hours 48 minutes.  Neil Jones suffered in the heat but still managed to run 3 hours 56 minutes.  Haydn Davies had already run this year’s London Marathon and recorded 5 hours 10 minutes for this undulating course that took in Edinburgh’s finest sights, including a run along the coast at Leith.
