The Thunderous Fifth Cheddar Half marathon results and times
At the Half-marathon race at Cheddar, 12 Harriers toed the start line of the ever-popular event with almost 250 other runners. The race was once again well organised by Cheddar Running Club. Nick Somerville was first home for the Harriers in 11th place, picking up the 2nd V40 prize for his time of 78.38, which was within a whisker of his time at last month’s Bristol Half. There was also some excellent running by Carol Buckland to finish in a personal best 98.07
Paul Chadwick warmed up for his following day’s Wessex League cross-country effort with a steady seven-minute per mile pace for 90.43, just getting the better this time of 4 of his team-mates in a close finish. Both Neil Jones, with his 94.11, and Tim Hamblin, 94.43 had recent marathons in their legs, their having competed at Snowdonia and New Forest Marathons respectively. Martin Bailey 92.26 and Karl Watts 95.29 completed the Harrier men to finish. Tim, and his wife, Sue Hamblin who finished in 114.17, are still in line to win awards in the year-long Somerset Series, and we await the outcome of the final fixture at Brent Knoll on November 27th to see what positions they finish in.
Relative newcomers to running Lucy Chard with 109.12, and Jane Whittaker 112.37 once again ran well, and not too far behind was Pat Challis with 115.42, an improvement on her recent Bristol time by some 4 minutes. Also making his debut for the Club at Cheddar was John Brown with his solid 108.57 for 174th place. Well done to all!
