The 7th race in the Somerset Series took the local clubs to Cricket St Thomas last Sunday with approximately 160 runners tackling the private estate course with its lakes, woodlands and farmland. With hot conditions dominating throughout the race the severe hills proved an extra challenge on the day with a junior race starting the event, Wells Luke Prior put the clubs colours sharply into focus with a dominate win over the 1 mile course.
The 10k race organised by Chard Road Runners saw 6 Wells Harriers competing over the mainly dry course.
With super vet Clive Harwood ( 1st Vet 60 in 21st place ) supporting Crewkerne’s colours on the day it was Graham Goldsmid who fronted the Harriers score sheet finishing in 30th position clocking 51:36.
Rebecca Carver ran a superb race with a well judged run to finish 1st senior female clocking 53:23, with Katrina Prior 55:16 taking 2nd V35 prize with her 46th place overall. Other finishers included Pete Wright 56th, 57:44, Catherine Goldsmid 80th, 63:10 and Hayley Carver 117th 66:39.
