Wells City Harrier members were busy again this past weekend. Many of the juniors were at the County Athletic Association Track & Field Championships, whilst a good number of seniors were running at a 10km multi-terrain race near Chard. Several of the juniors, competing as part of the combined Yeovil & Wells track & field team came away with medals from the Championships or achieved personal bests. All that training and coaching on a Monday evening is paying off! Also Elise Thorner has another top ten national ranking from her race at Solihull. Chris Green won the multi-terrain race at Wambrook whilst Nick Weaving continues to lead the Somerset Race Series.
At the County Champs, u17 Vicky McCabe continued her winning performances at Long Jump and 100m sprints with marks of 5.30m and 13.23. U17 Dylan Dukes won Gold in the 3000m with 9.22. U15 Holly Bigger won two silvers with 27.87 for 200m and 2.25 for 800m. U15 Toby Watson ran a pb for the 1500m for bronze with 4.43. In the u13s, Ollie Bishop won bronze for 100m in 14.97, and was 4th in the 1500m, just behind team mate Bradley Glover, 5.02. More details to follow. Meanwhile at Solihull another of Wells City Harriers talented u17 athletes, Elise Thorner ran in a high quality BMC middle distance ever and ran a new pb of 2.11 for 800m to climb to 5th in the UK u17 rankings to add to her No. 1 ranking for Steeplechase and No 8 ranking for High Jump. Closer to home was Race 7 of the Somerset Race Series with The Wambrook Waddle 10k multi terrain near Chard with 11 senior Wells Harriers competing.
First home for Wells and outright race winner was Chris Green in 39.42, and 13th was V40 Damien Pick in 47.59, with Graham Goldsmid 15th first V50 in 49.32.
Current Series leader V50 Nick Weaving was 26th in 53.17, then Simon Carr 33rd 55.24, Craig Foley 38th 57.00, Kevin Butt 48th 1.02, Catherine Goldsmid 50th in 1.02, Karen Shears 86th in 1.13, Nick Edwards 91st in 1.14Jenny Adams 99th in 1.28.
Also competing this past weekend in a Sprint Triathlon at Stourhead was Harrier member, and Downside pupil, Alvaro Perez-Maura. Alvaro trains with our Tuesday group.
Alvaro finished 12th out of 200 athletes. His total time was 1h, 48m ,54s, with partial time of 15.23 for the 900 meters swimming, 56.35 for the 18mile bike and 31.19 on the 4.5 mile running stretch where he was 6th of all competitors.
