Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

Frank Tickner swept to victory at the Yeovil half marathon last Sunday (March 31st) whilst the previous weekend saw Oli Frost running well at the Black Mountains Ultra race (that's a bit hilly!). There's also some great races coming up with a number of Harriers at this Sunday's (April 6th) Taunton  Half/Marathon and others getting ready for the London the following weekend. Read on for details of some relay team opportunties for Harrier members.

TeamGB athlete and Wells City Harrier Frank Tickner made time in his schedule to win the Yeovil Half Marathon on Sunday March 31st with a time of 67.32 being good enough to finish some 30 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed athlete. Frank, who has competed for TeamGB at various World & European Cross country Championships ran clear of the field in the glorious sunny weather. Next in for the Harriers in the large field of runners was Geoff Cole in 99.58, and then Paul Allen 1.44; Simon Carr in 1.49 and Alice Knight in 1.50.

s tough ultra races was Oli Frost who completed the Black Mountains 40 mile race. Oli finished in overall 25th place amongst the field of 60 ultra endurance athletes, covering the distance in exactly 9 hours.

In the next few weeks the Harriers will see several of its Club members taking part over the classic 26.2 mile marathon distance. At Taunton this coming Sunday (6th) there are three Club members competing: Michelle Blackmore, Akom Srithunma and Rex Whitcombe are competing in the full marathon; and Rebecca Carver in the Half Marathon. At London the following week another handful of Harriers are taking on the challenge. Good luck to them all, and to other local runners that take part.

Also on Sunday 6th is the first of the season's Track & field matches at Yeovil Arena - full details via the link on the calendar.
